Welcome! We're so glad you're here!
Oakcrest Family Church - "The Vertical Church" - is more than just a place to go or an event to attend - we're a community of people who have been changed by the love of Christ and want to make known the Good News of God's love not only within the walls of the church, but outside these walls - in the community - as well.
If you've been following God your entire life, you're welcome here. If you're a new believer, you're welcome here. If you're not really sure you believe in God at all, you're welcome here. No matter where you are on the road to faith, we want to walk alongside you as you go. Our hope is that as you join us on the journey, you'll discover a God who is active, alive, and at work in your life.
COME AS YOU ARE!
Pastor Jim Norwood
Jim Norwood, Senior Pastor
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in; I needed clothes and you clothed me; I was sick and you looked after me; I was in prison and you came to visit me."
(Matthew 25: 35-36, NIV)
Oakcrest Family Church - "The Vertical Church" started as Oakcrest Baptist Church in 1950, a mission of Tate Springs Baptist Church. Jim Norwood became the Pastor in 1996. Pastor Norwood always had a heart and a vision to help individuals and families who are deeply in need - a group that is often overlooked and forgotten. Families in Crisis Ministries was born out of the awareness of the needs and challenges of these precious people and the desire to make a difference in those families' lives. We are dedicated to walking alongside and helping any way we can.
Over the last 20+ years, Oakcrest Family Church - "The Vertical Church" has been an excellent steward of the resources God has provided, utilizing them to help families in crisis, never charging for their services and consistently maintaining a debt-free status.
To glorify God by introducing the least of these to the unfailing love and promises of Jesus Christ, while meeting immediate needs and working toward long-term goals, thereby empowering and equipping them to embrace a brighter Christ-centered future for themselves and their families as well as their communities
To love, respect, accept, and walk alongside people right where they are; to operate with integrity as good stewards of public trust and resources; to know that the potential for success lies within the heart of all people; and to recognize that everyone deserves an opportunity for a better life. These values are based on Matthew 25:35-36, which reads, "for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was in prison and you came to Me."
STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe in the one true God who is revealed through the unity of three divine Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, that He was conceived of the Holy Spirit to be born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died, was buried, was resurrected, and ascended into heaven, and is now at the right hand of God.
We believe the Bible in its entirety is the inspired Word of God.
We believe in the personal salvation of believers through faith in Jesus Christ.
We believe in sanctification through the Word of God and by the Holy Spirit.
We believe in divine healing through faith in the name of Jesus Christ.
We baptize new believers in water as a public testimony of their faith and obedience in Jesus Christ.
We believe that Jesus Christ will return to gather His own to Himself from those who remain alive on earth and from those in the grave, and that they shall reign and rule in glorified bodies like His.
